Built in 1978, opened in 1979, Monte Vista was the dream of George S. "Nig" Engle. After being a caddie and greens keeper, he worked his way up to Pro, and was a certified PGA professional. Nig loved the game, but also enjoyed the people, and teaching others to enjoy the game. In 1986, Nig passed away leaving the course in the hands of his wife Etta Lou, son, Scott and daughter Denise. Scott operated the course with Denise and husband Ralph in recent years until his passing in 2012. Today Georges widow Etta Lou, daughter and Son in law, Denise and Ralph Young along with their son and Daughter-in-law Daniel and Melissa Carmack operate Monte Vista, helping make Georges dream of a family owned course, available to anybody regardless of means or background, so they too can play golf at an affordable rate, with friendly service.
